CZ 550 magazine rattle 375 HH
I was recently on Safari and had the oppy to examine two recent CZ550s in 375. Both suffered from cartridge rattle when the muzzle was raised or lowered. The second cartridge down slides back and forth in the box, which appears to be impossible but I was told "they all do that". Anyone encountered this and if so, is there a simple fix?

Reload a bullet with a longer OHL if the chamber can take it

Russ,
I replaced the magazine spring(with a stronger one) and this helped with the issue. YMMV.

I had the same issue in cz - I had a new metal bottom put in by Wayne at Ahr.

But previously I had a rattle when there were 4 Or 2 rounds in magazine. But none when I had 5-3-1 rounds. I liked the rattle could always tell how many rounds I had in the magazine.

And savage thought they were on to something with that little brass counter.....

What bottom metal did Wayne put on for you?

A stronger magazine spring plus I seat my bullets out pretty far fixed it for me.

Rule 303
You can have a gunsmith silver solder a guide/cartridge rib in the magazine. One each side somewhere in the shoulder area. Stops recoil bushing the nose of the projectile as well.

Sure sounds like a weak spring. Does the spring push the rounds up in proper fashion to load the chamber?

The rifles that I had that had that problem were not having the cartridges slide forward and back but were going side to side. the cartridge wouldn't shift a measureable amount- just within a mm or so of slack, It could be salved by a stronger spring or more precisely, shaping the magazine box to more precisely fit the shape of staggered rounds.

From what I've read everything in a true Mauser action, including the magazine, follower, etc. was precisely machined for the specific round it was intended for. I imagine CZ does this for families of rounds, not individual calibers. That and quality control probably contribute to some rifles having an unacceptable rattle. Easily fixable, but annoying.
