For my 45-70 I have loaded the 250 and 300 grain Barnes X bullets and the 400 grain Speer flat point. I have not yet shot these to see how they do on paper, but for deer I will use either the 250 or 300 grain X. I have seen how well the X bullets perform in all other calibers including pistol and muzzleloader, so I'm sure they will do the same in the 45-70.

I've had great success with my 450 marlin with the hornaday 350 GR RN. Recovered one from a 175 lb hog that broke 14 ribs and broke 1 sholder and had 300 gr retained weight. The 300 GR HP are the most accurate I've been able to reload but either is great.
