Marrakai
Using American powders, the regulating loads for double rifles in Graeme Wright's book are a good place to start, as follows:

.500 x 3-inch Full Nitro:
570gr jacketed bullet, 106gr H4350, 2100 fps.

.500 x 3-inch Nitro-for-Black:
440gr jacketed bullet, 72gr Varget, saddle-felt wad (polyurethane packing-foam wad OK), 1920 fps.

The light-nitro load may be OK as a light starting/practice load, but may not regulate in a full nitro double. In a single it doesn't matter as much of course.

Hope this helps.

Marrakai: Now that was quick .....thanks a lot ! I`ll use Finnish Vihtavouri powders and will look for comparable burning rates to start with ! My rifle is a TCR Single Shot , so regulating doesn`t matter at all.Thank you very much , mate ! [Smile]

Hi Jrgen

You may already know this, but Vihtavuori has a very nice burning rate chart that includes MANY powders (including their own of course).

Visit Metric

or

USA

NOTE: The powders in the burning rates charts are NOT the same (being geared for the US vs European markets) , so downlaod both and you will have MANY choices!

500grains
Jurgen,

If you can get XMR5744 powder from Accurate Arms, then I suggest 35-60 grains behind a 500-600 grain bullet. The recoil is mild. Start at the low end. My best load is 45 grains behind a 500 grain cast bullet.
