375 alaskanitrex gs and win failsafes 375
My 375 hh has the best accuracy for factory loads in bullets under the 300 grain weight range and it likes the 285 grn. speer nitrex and 270 grn. win. failsafe with very good accuracy but I have no experience with these loads on game and was woundering if any of you do, I live here in alaska and when I go hunting I like a load that will handle b. bears even tho I may not be hunting them specificly. Thanks. Greg

Dark PaladinI cant say anything about the other loads, but the 270 grn failsafe will do wonders on bears

muledeerThe Sspeer Nitrex cartridges are loaded with Speer Grand Slam bullets, which I have found to be very tough and effective in .270, .280 and .35 Whelen loads. I can't imagine that a Speer Grand Slam made specifically for the .375 H&H would not be an outstanding bullet, fully suitable for any task the cartridge is up to. Which would seem to include brown bears. I carry my Whelen loaded with 250 gr. GS's loaded to about 2440 fps when I hunt in bear country, so I would certainly be comfortable with a rifle firing a wider, heavier, faster GS. Just fwiw.

AtkinsonThe 270 gr. Failsafe worked wonders on the Buffalo I have seen shot with it..It lends new meaning to a 270 gr. bullet and will out penitrate most any 300 gr. conventional soft points...It will leave two holes in most anything. It would be my pick.

Ulrik HentzerI agree with Ray. The 270 grs FS is a wonderfull and totally reliable bullet for DG/big game hunting.
I just wish that Combined Tech. would see the ligth and make a 400 grs .416 FS-bullet..

Dark PaladinI've only seen it used by the guys I hunt with, but I've seen the 18 bears my friends and family have taken with it, it did do a pretty good job on all of them..from brownies to blacks it didn't seem to matter great bullet every time

bwanamrmGentlemen,
Used the 285 gr. Speer Grand Slams in Zim in 1994 and shot alot of plains game with the bullet. It shot well and the performance was excellent on game up to and including eland. Back then they were strictly handloading material but think our loads were chronoing around 2550 fps. I also shot the 270 gr. failsafes last July in the RSA and had great results also. My dead animal pictures are on my 2002 Hunts for Afica post in Hunt Reports if you want to check it out. Also have a few recovered bullets I could take pix of and post if you want to check them out.
