Just met a gentleman who owns a 416 Rem mag. Found this out during a "business" lunch. Anyway we get to jawing about hunting and I mention my desire for a big bore and he mentions his 416 Rem mag. Anyway, long story short, he suggested we go shooting Saturday, weather permitting, so I can see first hand how a M70 416 Rem handles! Lucky me. So the plan now is to go fire off a 416 Rem mag on Saturday, and then go big bore shopping on Sunday. Depending upon what my shoulder feels like Saturday, will significantly effect my shopping Sunday.

I would like to thank everyone for the help thus far provided. It has been of considerable aid to me, and is greatly appreciated.

GREAT for you. Just my advice
1: that scope WILL hit you, so don't crane your neck/face out
2: you've already decided it's going to hit you, make your shot count

Thanks for the advise! I don't know if the rifle has a scope or not, I did not think to ask. If the damned rain stops for Saturday, I guess I will find out!
