Brockman Gen III sights on L-W barrel
My .375 H&H BRNO M602 arrived today from Jim Brockman's shop now adorned with Jim's Generation III aperture rear sight and barrel-band front sight. The barrel is a new Lothar Walther 600 mm (24.6") length 12" twist. Muzzle diameter is approx .700".

I am really pleased with the sight picture of these sights, and the factory BRNO stock is shaped for iron sights.

Now to do some shooting this weekend. [Wink]

HI,

I am also getting a Brockman rifle. I will get a pop up ghost ring rear and a front post front. I think his work is very good. Thanks,Kev

I took the rifle to the range this afternoon to break in the barrel. I followed the routine recommended by Kenny Jarrett -- shoot one and clean for 20 rounds, with a "major" cleaning after the 10th shot. The break-in is intended to blend the two zones of very different manufacturing between the chamber and the barrel proper.

I took some boxes of factory .375 H&H that I had kicking around. I shot 3 rounds of Federal 300 grain HiShok, 5 rounds of Eldorado 300 grain X-Bullet, 5 rounds of Federal 300 grain Nosler Partition, and 7 rounds of Speer Nitrex 285 grain Grand Slam. I fired at 50 yards and 100 yards, and everything from this new Lothar Walther barrel went to a common point of impact.

The sights work very well. I was looking for a Cape buff on the way home, but I didn't see any.

HunterJim,

I like the look/contour of that L~W barrel! I'm guessing that it's a #1450 Super Magnum Sporter? Very nice rifle. How about some more pics.

I am thinking of using L~W barrels for the 2 Montana PH actions I have coming.

Congrats,
Dave

Both my son and I have Jim's pop-up peep sights and highly recommend them. My son's is on a 416 rigby which is Jim's working rifle and mine is on a M 70SC 416 Rem Mag. You may have to change the front sight on the M70 but Jim can help you with that too.

David,

I forwarded your question to Jim Brockman, and here is his answer.

Jim ,
The barrel is a #1450 contour. I pick what was closest to the factory CZ
This barrel weighs 3 oz. less than the CZ but was very close in contour.

Jim

Today I am thinking about sticking a scope on the rifle to test how well this Lothar Walther barrel shoots. My results with the iron sights were very good. But before I do that I will use a target that permits a precise, repeatable hold and wring out the iron sights a bit more. I did a lot of iron sight, high-power shooting in a previous (but younger [Wink] ) life.
