They are too long for a CZ. And any other egular size bolt action. I have used them single shot, in my bolt actions,

for a couple thousand rounds. I did figure out that you

could weld up a long action, or rework an Enfield by opening the action bottom by making a different sear and

sear spring setup, using a singlestack mag.

You can take a

Lott, use right ball powders and get 2300fps at much lower pressure than factory loads, with a little more freebore(so bullets can be seated out more than factory loads)with a decent length barrel.Ed.

The SA 458 3" is a great round, but so is the Lott..With a 26 inch tube a Lott will really cook..

What would be the best current rifle to duplicate such ballistics, with low pressure?

My secon thought is blowing the 416 rigby out to 458, but, it's expensive. What's wrong with the 460 Weatherby, loaded down?

Huh? There is nothing particularly expensive about a .450 Rigby. Just get a Brno 602 in .458 Win and have it rechambered. That's what I did. Hell, you can have mine ('cause I jes' gotta hava double rifle!) for $1300 on www.gunbroker.com. I've got about twice that in all the tricks you would want for a DGR so if you want genuinely cheap, c'mon down!

Socrates- There is a 3 inch H&H based magnum used in SA.
And my 458HE belted case at 3.45 in long. Mine will do
a 500 gr at 2500 fps at 40k, using ball powder. Ed.

Hi

The more I look at the 458 Lott, the more I wonder why they didn't make it longer.

The 450 N2, 3 1/4 inch, fires a 480 at around 2200 fps, with LOW pressure, like 40k. Why not take the H&H case and extend it to 3 or 3 1/4?

Ideally, I think one would be looking for a 500 grain bullet, at 2300-2400 fps, but with 40k pressure.

What would be the most economical way of accomplishing those ballistics?

Also, does the reduction in pressure make enough difference in recoil to be worth doing?

Will those rounds feed reliably, and, will they fit in a CZ action?

Bolt action rifle, is the goal, cheap...
