9.3x64 Brenneke muzzle diameter
Wondering what muzzle diameter to go with for something on the lighter- med side - 26" long bbl. Thinking the LW barrels are std .650" at the muzzle... Is this about right for proper final weight? Mine is a Half-Moon cryo-treated barrel so still needs some profiling.
Thanks! Jeff P

I'd say that 0.625" to 0.650" would be ideal for light/medium 9.3 bore.

I have a 0.625" muzzle diameter (no.3 Douglas sporter contour) on a 24" .375 H&H and that is as light as I would dare to go. It uses a 1 pound Brown precision stock and is balanced just right, and luckily is accurate too, 6.75 lbs. bare/empty (Pre-64 M70).

Use a trim walnut stock or 2 lbs. synthetic stock, leave the barrel as heavy and long as possible with your blank, and it ought to end up around 8 pounds, bare/empty, be well balanced and accurate. IMHO. This assumes a Mauser 98 type action.

Not more than .650 for sure.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

At 26 inches, I like .600, at 24 inches .625, thats plenty for the long tubes...650 is a little much IMO...LW is just about right..

Actually I am doing that with a stainless Dan Lilja for a .375 Lapua. But that is another sordid tale for another day.

Jeff,
If you flute that nice 9.3x64 custom, I will come to Boise and Gilflurt and Stringhaulter you..It is a classic caliber only deserving of such as rust blue, and European walnut... shame

With a good Germanic name like "Pfeifer" there are still no flutes in the gun rack yet, nor fifes in the house ...but Fifi's now that's another story Smiler
