OverkillHubel458
Hi Hubel!
I have some question about your .700 HE
What velocity will it do with a 26-28 inch barrel with a 1000 grainer or a 1200 grainer 1800 grainer???
Thanks!

GrandpasezOverkill--1000 gr bullet and 320 gr compressed load of ball powder--26 inch barrel,2940 fps-- 28 inch barrel 3000fps--30 in,3060 fps--32 in, 3120fps.
For the 700 HE Long add 180 fps.I use at least 32 in barrel to get the energy out of the loads and have extra weight for taming recoil.Ed.

<Per577>Hubel !
I'm longing to see some of the rifles built for these awesome cartridges of yours !
What action,,what weight,,and what recoil will these have

Ed,
I saw on another thread somewhere you said 3400fps was possible with 1000 grain and one of your cases. Have you acheived this or just estimated?
Karl.

OverkillHubel458!
I would like to see pictures of a .700 HE Do you have one? How long barrel? What velocity is possible with a 1200 grainer. Hawk bullets will make them.
Thanks!

GrandpasezPer577--The 700HE and 700HE long will need
BMG size actions. They will have to be over 22 lbs weight,Recoil will be a little over 200
ft lbs.
Karl-My 700HE Long will get to about 3400 in a
36 in barrel. That figure is from the formula that
I posted earlier, and it is very accurate math.
Within 2%,.Picture of Long is below.
Overkill here is the picture.1st is a 458Win;
2nd is a 458 HE; 3rd is a 550 HE; 4th is the
700HE Long(4.27 in case}; 5th is the 700 HE(3.85
in case); 6-7-8 are shorter case versions.Ed.

Ed, when you turn your cases, do you polish them afterwards? I made a jig for my big lathe for the 4 bore cases that seems to be working fine, but the finished surface isn't quite what I'd like.
Ed,
Remarkable.I did not realise it was such long brass.Just what brass is it?
Sorry if you've gone over it already but I have not been keeping up to date.
Karl.

What is my expirience with brass, when I need near mirror polish, I use finest wet diamond paper and everything is ok and surface is really smooth, I mean no radial markings etc . . . The key is make it sligtly bigger, ie 0.05mm in diameter . . . Another way is to make own knife to lathe with "custom" main and false blade angle etc . . . Appologize please my bad english terminology

GrandpasezLar--Jiri has the best way to get a smooth finish.
I use 1200 & crocus to smooth it up a fair
amount. My cases are not turned as such, except
where I started belt shoulder, only for about an inch of the case.Very little brass removed as sides above belt are over.050 when done.Swaging does the rest to get the case shape..The unfired
brass I use is a little grungy, so I clean it and
smooth it up with wet and dry paper after the turning for belt so it is smooth for swaging or
resizing.Then I polish it again when done.Ed.
Karl-The long case is built from BMG blank brass.
Only have 4 of them built. They are hard to
find as brass is usually crushed or
shredded by the salvage companies that save huge
amounts of regular BMG brass.Blank firing cases are just as thick and strong as regular, except longer and have to drill flash hole out a little.Ed

GrandpasezSaving the funds to build one.It will probably be

much bigger hole in the end..Ed.

RobgunbuilderHubel458- Ed I have a good gun parts recipe for you. I'll send you an e-mail with the specs. Wonder if McBros will do a group discount. I want to order a action for my son's light .50 BMG.-Rob
