RobgunbuilderThe hunt was an absolute BLAST!!! We all had a ton of fun and learned some new tricks about Big Bores. One I learned was to shoot DEER sized animals in the MIDDLE of the body so as to save the meat. In truth I just wanted to see what would happen! I was impressed so was everyone else! The deer in the photos was killed and blown open with one shot from the NYATI. I call it a HYDRAULIC SHOT. Same thing on pigs! The second thing I learned is that it's pretty easy to make good running shots with the 585 Nyati. The balance point just below the action ring is perfect for getting on a running animal and sweeping through. I was able to make about four good running shots and of couse they were TERMINAL to say the least! The Woodleigh bullet recovered from the off shoulder of the Eland Bull weighed 739.2 grs. It only lost ca 11 grs going through and smashing one shoulder, the brisket and the off shoulder bones. Eland are tough critters! Jeffe was a tremendous host and a hell of a good guy to go hunting with! I can't wait to do it again!!!-Rob

NitroXLooks like a fun hunt.
Funny how the Woodleighs look so much different when recovered from an animal.

mehulkamdarCongratulations on a great hunt. Thanks for posting and if you have time, would someone please write a piece for the AR e-zine describing the hunt?

mehulkamdarRNS,
While you were away hunting, I suggested on the Afrcan forums that AR could start a DVD magazine and Saeed and DRG very kindly agreed to have an e-magazine on this site and asked for articles. I know that some members have been working on some really good articles and apparently some have been sent to the administrators. Please send your article to Saeed and I shall look forward to reading it in the new AR e-zine whenever it is put up along with all the other members.
Thanks and good hunting!

HeeHawAlways nice to hear of a great hunt and extremely good time. Everything is always bigger and better in Texas.
Curious minds want to know if a effigy was sacrificed at the evening campfire ? ( "Effigy an image or representation especially of a person; especially : a crude figure representing a hated person" ).
Be looking forward to some video's from .470 Mbogo.
Thanks for sharing.

470 MbogoHi Gents,
The trip started off with a bang for sure. One of the best off hand running Hog shots with a big bore I would have to say. Rob had two Hogs come running full speed out of one thick bush heading across a grass section about 60 yards wide to the next thick patch. He swung on the first Hog wasn't able to lead in time so picked up the second Hog in full flight led it, touched off the 585 Nyati hitting the Hog right behind the shoulder with a big red spray on the off side as the Hog tumbled over three times. Now I didn't feel it was really fair putting the pressure on the rest of us like that

but everyone came through with some really awesome shots. To say I was able to hunt with a great bunch is an understatement. It will be good fun to see some 600"s and 550's on the next trip. The penetration that Jeff mentioned with the 470 Mbogo was with 500 grain Barnes X loaded to 2410 fps and was shot at 170 yards aprox for those interested.
Take good care,
Dave

Did you get the PM I sent you?

470 MbogoHi Neal,
I did get the PM's and I'm just curious as to when he will actually be doing the 416 cylindrical run. Once the parts are ordered I wonder how long it will be before he is up and running. Thanks again for looking into the matter so promptly. Have you been notified from the ATF about your 550 yet?
Take good care,
Dave
