WyoJoe.416 Dakota
I was wondering about the .416 Dakota. I cannot find the demensions in my Barnes manual but I was thinking it is the same case as the .300 Dakota only necked up to .416. Can anyone tell me if it is?
Thank You

johnnyrebI don't have one, but from reading COTW, the 416 Dakota is the full length 404 Jeffery with a sharper shoulder and a .416" bullet versus the .423" bullet of the original 404 Jeffery. Dakota also offers a 404 Short Magnum, which is the 404 case with a case length of around 2.5 inches and a .423" bullet. I don't have either of these, but this is the information that I have read in various sources...

Zero DriftWyoJoe - The case dimensions for the .416 Dakota are as follows:
.416 Dakota
Base Width - .5450"
Base to Shoulder - 2.2760"
Base to Neck - 2.350"
Shoulder Width - .5270"
Shoulder Angle - 30 degrees
Case OAL - 2.850"
.416 Rigby
Base Width - .5890"
Base to Shoulder - 2.3530"
Base to Neck - 2.40"
Shoulder Width - .540"
Shoulder Angle - 45 degrees
Case OAL - 2.90"
The .416 Dakota is based upon the .404 Jeffery case. The Rigby has more case capacity, however, both are very close to the same performance. I shoot a .416 Dakota and have owned several .416 Rigbys. There is no difference in the field.
