Dan,

I now someone who just purchases a Mossberg 500 12 gauge slug gun. Seemed like a descent shotgun for $200.

I just cannot justify that kinda outlay of cash right now, though.

How about the NEF ULtra Slug Hunter in 20 or 12ga?

BUTT_JESTER - either 416 remington or 450 ackley, with the availability of bullets leaning towards the 450 ackley - shoot casts from 300 grain to over 500 grain with medium speed (1700-2000fps) or load jacketed from 300 to 600 grain weight - KMule

The 416 Rigby. I'm not sure I would be much of a shot with a bigger recoil than my 416, which I can shoot almost as well as my 375 H&H.

I forgot bullet selection, North Fork 370 grain at 2500 fps.

Karl-Erik,

I have a new found respect for the 45-90 as well. It is very close to a rimmed 458 Winchester magnum. Of course, for my personal use, I would opt for a M1886 Winchester lever gun.

Heck of a deer rifle, not my first choice though for true big game (that would include the entire 0.458 caliber though).
