Gringo CazadorInterarms Mark X action (not sure what to do with it)
Maybe should have posted under gunsmithing, but you guys that hang out here might just know what your talking about most of the time.
Anyway, I've got the guys at the gun shop holding a Mark X 7mag, actually a pretty nice gun (its not a bad gun for $300 if it shoots), but I have no use for another 7mag, just looked like a good deal even if I just used the action . I've used v24 bruno aciotns on other guns. I would think the commercial actions are fine. I really didn't need it, but figured I could build something out of it. I have a 375 H&H and a 416 Rigby and I'm finding the larger calibers interesting. Is this action strong enough to build a 458 or something like.
Comments please

Blackhawk44For years they marketed the large bore Mark X in 375 and 458 as the Whitworth model and sold a lot of them. Have heard no complaints in many years around many shops and camps.

AtkinsonYes it will make a nice 458 Win. or a Lott if opened up in the rear and very little in front. Lots of work to be done on them but they clean up as good or better than an FN as the metelurgy is better...they make them in 375 and 458 so it might be better to trade up or sell and buy, unless your wanting a first class custom job. The Whitworth is a Mark 10.....

Gringo CazadorDidn't know how much work it was to open one up, and didn't know they had to be opened at the front. Thanks for the info. The whitworths I've ran accross lately have been on the pricey side.
Worst case I'll have another gun in the safe.

jeffeossoFor 300, it's a decent action... better than ANY remington....
easy easy for any of the short mags... 338 would be my chioce, since you already have a 416 and 375.

B17GGringo,
I think you should discard that action. If you don't want to have to do that, drop it in the mail to me and I will dispose of it for you.
Send me an email and I will give you shipping instructions.

Gringo CazadorSeafire,
Your idea is better than one of my buddies at work. I ask him if he wanted to buy it, if not I would. He said why should I buy it when I can borrow it from you and you'll forget you loaned it to me.

jstevensMy brother has an old MarkX in 7mm Mag, that I'm buying as he has a new rifle coming. I'm making it into a .416 Taylor, should be perfect for that. Should require almost no modifications other than a barrel.

jeffeossoI built a 416 taylor of one of these.. no worries, feeds great, shoots even better.

Bwana-beGo for DagaRon's 45-338 Lapua, seated to about 3.5" and I bet you won't have to open up the front.
That'll give you all the boom you can stand.
