cz 550 scope mounts
I just bought a 375 H&H and need to mount a scope. My question is what mounts to use. I was told that only cz rings will work. I am looking at a 1.5-5 scope

I have used both CZ and Warne rings on my CZ 550s. Some people (myself included) have had trouble zeroing (running out of adjustment) with the CZ mounts and Warnes solved the problem. My 416 works fine with the CZ rings but my 375 required Warnes. Strange.

Socal,

CZ rings are fine, but they're high and heavy. Some people really like the Warnes. I have a set of Talley QD rings on mine. Leupold will also have rings available shortly.

Remember, there aren't any "mounts," just rings that fit the integral dovetails and the recoil stop on the back ring.

Personally, I'd recommend the Talleys. They're the most precisely made rings I've seen, equalled only by Conetrols. The Warnes are some kind of sintered/powdered metal, which is reason enough for me to avoid them. I don't know what Leupold's rings will be like. Talleys are pricey but well worth it, IMHO.

Best,
Joe

Joe,

I forgot to ask you a while back about your 416 Rigby that Jack built for you. Did he remove the factory barrel on your rifle? The reason for this question is because the factory barrel is extremely difficult to remove and wonder if he was having any difficulty removing it. Thanks for any info you can give me. Later.

Mingo,

Jack did remove and reinstall the barrel on my rifle. I believe he had to heat it slightly so he could break it loose. The factory seems to use some kind of epoxy on the threads, perhaps to keep bluing salts from getting in there.

Joe,

Thanks for the info! I don't think that the threads are the problem for the CZ 550. I believe that the barrel is screwed in so tight that the face of the chamber is welded to the C-ring of the reciever. Thanks.

When my smith removed my 416 rigby barrel he said it was very tight but that he says about Sako barrels as well.
