H&H is very much about projecting a very English image and that is the answer.

I don't know why so many people are against these new H&Hs. The 400 H&H is just perfect to pair up with a 300 H&H. The 400 H&H would also be very good for cast or paper patch bullets because of the extremely long neck and with the belted case preventing aan increase in headspace with each shot when very reduced loads are being used.

It also continues to puzzle me why so Americans hate or dislike Weatherby rifles when they are so Americana, virtually the Chev Corvettes of rifles. In fact one of the things that use to always irritate me with Weatherbys was the Made in Japan on a rifle that was just so American.

Paul, I think you've said it best. It looks like they took the wood from a pool table on that first one.

At least the second one might serve a purpose in Alaska. I see nothing wrong with putting a black or stainless barrel and synthetic stock on a big bore. The S/S part of that you buy because you need a tool, something that will last and be reliable. Why shouldn't we have that kind of tool for the big nasties?

500grains,

Since they are both belted magnums, they will have correct correct headspace -- well, assuming of course that the guys who make the brass are not total aardvarks.

I am glad to see the brass coming from sources over here, now for some bullets in addition to the Woodleighs.

Oh yeah, and rifles too.
