Do you want to know the difference or are you showing us?

If you want to know then the P14 was designed to fire the rimmed .303 and the 17 to fire the rimless 30-06.

Yes I know the difference between the two, as I got a couple of complete rifles for the two chamberings. Just wanted to take a picture of the bolts while I was taking pictures for something else. Thanks.

That picture should make it obvious why the P14 bolt is preferred over the P17 for really big stuff like the 505 gibbs.

Ahhh, but which Enfields are strong enough for hi pressure cartridges and which ones are not should be the question..I know some 14 are either brittle or soft..

I would prefer a Remington myself..

Thanks for sharing.

I have a 14 and I had assumed that the 17 was more desirable for the larger rounds because of the larger extractor. I guess I was wrong.

But now I can see it as a 550 magnum [Eek!] .

It is a 458 win now.

Use a Rem model 30 with a P14 bolt and P17 extractor (or Jim Wisner extractor).

other than having a larger surface for the gibbs case, it also means a larger volume of locking lugs, and since the 14/17 are TWO lug actions, this counts a little. yeah, the bolt is the third, but that count would make the 98 mauser 4....
