ExplorerAmmu for 375Ruger
How easy is it to get ammunition for the 375 Ruger in places like Africa?
I was wondering if I should go for 375 Ruger, 416 Taylor or 458 WinMag they are all great calibres to me

Calibre choises for big 5 for my new S&L Classic DL are 375 Ruger, 375 Dakota, 416 Taylor & 458 WinMag

pagosawingnutExplorer,
I would think that the .375 H & H would be more widely available as well as the .416 Rigby and the .458 Win Mag. I don't know if the Dakota or the Taylor ammo is going to be easy to obtain. But I usually take my own so don't end up looking for any.

MikelravyI wouldn't count on buying any ammo anywhere in Africa except in a few places in RSA. Best to ask you ph or agent what is the plan if your ammo gets lost.

Use Enough GunI agree with Mikelravy. On a recent hunt to Zimbabwe, I thought that I might need some 375H&H ammo. We contacted a reliable ammo source in Bulawayo, who informed us that he could get me a box of 20 for $300.(Federal) My PH said that he once needed a box of 470 ammo, and contacted the same source. The quoted price for a box of 20 470 NE (Federal)was $1,000. Now, imagine if you will, what it would be like to try and get a box of the off-caliber stuff. Good luck.

DArcy_Echols_CoWe built one for a Zambian PH that likes it very much. He uses 350Gr Woodleigh FMJ's and Soft's that he has loaded in the states and then has his clients bring over a box or two during the season.

Clients do occasionally shoot up all their ammo, or "waste" their ammo in the bush, and luckily a PH sometimes finds some of it, and it just so happens to fit his rifle.

In Botswana, handloading is illegal, but the use of handloads from another country is fine,
so if you are a PH in Botswana, you get a friend in RSA to reload your empties for you,
and visit your friend at least once yearly for the exchange of empties for loaded ammo.

Listening to Obama and Romney debate, while I type this.

ExplorerFor std action length 458 WinMag seems to be the best choice when looking at ammunition availabillity
I reload and I guess I'll go for the 416 Taylor for its penetration and ballistic
