Have a chance to purchase a 93 that is set up in the 416 remington calibere, left hand bolt, and the syn.stock. i know the first thing you'll say is its not CRFeeding, but other than that what are your opinons of this rifle?
15 January 2003, 03:42
500grainsI have handled them several times but I have not shot one. The ones I handled seemed well put togehter but were light for my preference. It is a novel design, but I am a traditionalist. I suspect that if dumped in the mud, it would bind up. But lots of people are very happy with the Blaser.

Andre MertensHave 2 R93's since about 5-6 years (.300 WM & .222 Rem) and fired about 2000 rounds beween them. The .300 has been hunted hard during several trips in the Scottish Highlands and still shoots < .7 MOA (5 shots - hunting ammo). Never a problem, I whole-heartedly recommend them.

GeorgeSDave,
See if yoiu can fire that gun before buying it; the R93 is pretty light for a .416 Remington.
Recoil may be obnoxious.

SlingsterDave:
I have the .416 RM Blaser R93 Synthetic. If it doesn't have the Kick-Stop recoil reducer, I strongly recommend adding it; the gun is on the light side. On the other hand, it is accurate and off the bench it is entirely manageable.
Of course, the other advantage of the rifle is that you can buy barrels in many other chamberings. In the Safari-weight barrels, a two-barrel set of the .375 H&H and .416 RM in Blaser's proprietary hard-shell case would be a lightweight and compact rig for hunting worldwide.

JohnTheGreekIf the price were right, I would totally buy that gun. I like the .416 and Blasers are kinda neat. I'm not sure I would want it as my ONLY big bore (everybody's gotta gave a Mauser or Winchester in their safe) but I have shot them and they are accurate as hell and appear to be the epitome of reliability.
Since the .416 has the heavier contour bbl, I would also recommend getting a target weight .300 mag or 30-06 bbl for yourself.

Dave JamesSlingster, what is the Kick stopper?
George, haven't shot it yet just looking
John thats one reason I was looking at it was thinking of other bbls.
Will not be the only big bore, I'm still working on shooting the 450Nitro with full house rounds, whish that Ruger was just a tad heavier

Heritage ArmsThanks John!
The r 93 is my favourite hunting rifle. John can attest to that. Give me a call and we will talk.

<JOHAN>Gentlemen
My opinion about blaser is very clear. I would look for something else, to be honnest
I have owned one and it was a very sick gun. If you get one in 416 rem recoil can be hard.

trbI have a R93, wood stock and the slim .375 hh barrel. It weighs 3.8 kg with the scope and is a dream to shoot. No problems. I have shot and hunted a lot with it and have had no problems. Very reliable in my experience, excellent trigger and very accurate. You can break it down for transport, with the barrel and scope taken of, and reassemble without bothering to check zero, it will be spot on. I would go for it, although I prefer walnut stocks.
And dont mind Johan, remember he is from the country who gave us abba and Volvo, so clearly having a keen eye for esthetics is not in his heritage..

Andre MertensDon't be so hard on Swedes. I hate their food (can we still call it like that...) and they can't recognize a good rifle but I do love their moose hunting and I drive a S80

Andre MertensDave, Blaser offers the "Kick Stop" as an option. It's a recoil reducer, a metal tube filled with tungsten balls. The beauty of it is that every Blaser comes already threated for it, inside the stock. All one has to do is to remove the buttplate and screw in/out the tube, as simple as that. I own one that I use for bench work with my .300 WM. I take it out when hunting, to save the extra 600 g. Felt recoil is reduced the same as with regular muzzle brakes (or is it the weight ?) but without the extra-blast.

Dave JamesThanks Andre, Aleko, have looked at your site that is what got me interested in it to began with ,
trb,Gee i like both

Andre MertensJohan, I did indeed hunt in Ostmark / Vrmland, as a guest of Norma. You seem to suggest that being near the Norwegian border, is the reason for moose being more plentyful than good food (in any case, I succeeded in convincing our hosts that wine was better than beer and Akvavit and I must say they took to it with enthousiasm
![[Wink]](images/icons/wink.gif)
). Being on the food subject, I must insist that French and Belgian cuisine are one and the same, although Belgian retaurants are more expensive. And closing with rifles, I'm not country obsessed and I'll happily buy quality, from whatever origin, when I meet it. Proof is I even bought a Volvo

My dear norweigan mountain baboon. Thanks for the insult. What has Norway contributed with except dried fish, sheep in cabage. Both are not meant to be eaten by any sane man, I guess that's why they are very common in Norway
But surstrmning is quality food?
I also prefer the best equipment, and disregard country og origin, proof is I even bought a Citren...

How about smrgsbord, I guess it's not from Norway. I guess the Norweigan cooking traditions are shit out of luck
Surstrmming were from the begining made for export to Norway
The thing about quality seems to be missunderstod in Norway, admit to us that you are a closet kraut with certain french passions for bad engeneering such as Citroen
Andr
French cooking is better than Belgian, admit it
![[Wink]](images/icons/wink.gif)
Staying at NORMA is next to Norway, which explains the bad food.
Both of you are Waltherhog wannabe's with a passion for tacky rifles.

Norwegians are advanced people, so we like advanced solutions, hence the Blasers and Citroens.
![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)
Strange really, how the Swedish love for everything German seems to have deteriorated since the war.. (Sorry, I know, a little bit below the belt..but you did go down this road yourself
![[Wink]](images/icons/wink.gif)
)
Traditional Norwegian food is total crap, on that we can agree, with the humble exception of smoked salmon and fresh, steamed cod. I still say you are wrong about the Blasers, they are actually quite excellent: short, light, flexible and accurate. If I only wanted to pose with my rifle I would probably have a custom something on a mauser 98 action, but for hunting I have higher demands.

bpesteveJust FYI, there's a major safety recall on the Blaser 93, see
http://www.sigarms.com for details.
17 January 2003, 06:47
JohnTheGreekbpesteve,
I don't know that I would classify this as a "MAJOR" safety recall. Blaser is being a typical German company when it comes to quality control and customer service. They are recalling for a couple of trigger pins that were suppossed to be stainless but weren't. When was the last time you had a pin corrode out of your Winchester and cause an accidental disharge?
JohnTheGreek
17 January 2003, 08:28
Andre MertensJohn is right. I brought back my 2 6 year old R93's to have the trigger pins remplaced by SS ones. For my trouble, the existing warranty was extended for another 10 years. I take it that during this 16 year guarantee, I will at least have one barrel wear out (prematurely ?) and will ask for its replacement
![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)
I'm sorry that I can't have the trigger pins of all my other rifles replaced under the same terms...
17 January 2003, 11:47
bpesteveD'oh! Guess I should read what it says before I panic. No, it's hardly a major recall.
17 January 2003, 15:08
Heritage ArmsI sent all of my r 93's to Blaser/Sigarms and they had all of the updated parts in them already.

<Collani>@all
BTW there are a lot of firearms recalls:
Browning, Colt, Remington, Ruger, Smith&Wesson, Winchester etc...
http://www.firearmsid.com/Recalls/Firearm%20Recall%20Index.htm I like my Blaser R93
![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)
and as Andr said "the existing warranty was extended for another 10 years"
Anyway good shooting and good hunting

MikelravyAt the rate the price on them has gone down since inception even I might have to get one in five years, at which time they should cost about what they are worth.
