walksfar.458 3" South African
Anybody know anything much about this version?
A lengthened .458 Lott---to 3" case.
I have done some searches on here, and have found "some" info, but not much.
What about reamers, and brass, etc.
The rifle actions won't be a problem, as I can handle that part. It is the components that I'm stumped with. Some on-line companies seem to be listing something of this sort in their brass selection, but all by seemingly different names, at least from my viewpoint.
Are reamers available to buy or rent?
I suppose I could contact Clymer, but did not want to go that route, only as a last resort.
Also, does it not seem logical to use them in standard magnum magazines, by simply seating the bullet deeper, or using 480gr. nitro bullets with the shorter nose.
I'm not looking for more power, or lower pressure. Just something interesting to stir my curiosity. And hey, I like longer cases, just for the heck of it. Something "unique", in other words.
If anyone can point me in the direction for these, I would appreciate it, and maybe we could get a .458 3" thing going here in America.
Just a thought.
But there is VERY LITTLE on the internet about this cartridge.
p.s.-I am familiar with it's intentions of use with African powders. Just not up to date on where to find components.

I tried to get cases from PMP in SA but it never went anywhere.
Just seat the bullets out 0.2" in the Lott case. And get someone to lengthen the throat.
The 3" cases wouldn't fit on my CZ magazine.
I see it as just a waste of effort.

Hog Killer458 Express. If you want more case capacity, get a fatter case not alonger one. It cheaper that way.
