Ruger M77 in .458WM?
What do you guys know about the Ruger 77 in .458? Where can I find a pic on the web. Is it like the RSM? What is the barrel like? Is it the early pseudo controlled round feed? ect ect!! Thanks in advance. Guy

Does the rifle have a tang safety or a Winchester type? If a tang safety, it's an early R77 and does not have CRF. The Winchester safety type is the Mk II R77, early versions of which had pseudo-CRF and later versions of which have true CRF. The RSM actions (and it shold say on the barrel) are CRF. As for the barrels, the R77 barrels were contracted out, and quality varies. On the Mk II Ruger was making their own barrels, so quality is at least consistant. Hope this helps. - Dan

Guy,

I remember when Ruger was selling these rifles (on the Mark I action -- they didn't call it that then but since the current is the Mark II...). There were three versions: the R, RS and the RSC.

The first two were to distinguish iron sights or not on the barrel. The RSC was an upgraded model with Circassian walnut stock and steel bottom metal. The RSC models I saw had nicely figured wood for a factory rifle. I have not seen one for some years, but then I haven't been looking for them either.

I just purchased a Ruger RSM in .375 for $875 which I think is a good deal so I was wondering about the 458. I guess the .458 is a shorter shell so???
