Cordite_Blues450 NE projecct nears completion
My Ruger No 1, lately a 458 Win Mag, is now a 450 NE 3.25". Briefly, it's sporting a 26" Douglas barrel, NECG 2-leaf rear sight, barrel band front sight, barrel band swivel, color case-hardened lever (bent slightly to the right). The rifle has been bead blasted and blued. I'm still toying with the weight, but as it came it's 9.5-10#. My goal is to kill a Michigan whitetail with it in each of it's historical guises: 450 BPE, 450 nitro-for-black, and 450 NE. Then on to Africa (sometime before I die). Now my question: I'd appreciate any and all home recipes for the 450 in all its iterations, and your experiences, good and bad. I've got ample supplies of both Jamison and Bertram brass. Thanks in advance. Cordite Blues.
If you can, post a pic. You'll find a few 450 shooters here and they'll chime in once they see this post.
BTW, while surfing another site, I found a load that is for DR's. It's 105 gr of 4831 with a 500 gr bullet. Obviously, caution should be used and start at lower levels.

Bill/OregonCordite: Ross Seyfried did a piece in either Rifle or Handloader on this round four or five years back. I had a No. 1 in .458 reamed to .450 NE and played with it some. Not sure I can find load notes, but did have fun with some BP loads as well as nitro. For the former, try the Lyman 457125 "Government" bullet lubed with SPG over a lightly compressed, drop-tubed case full of FFg.

AtkinsonMy good friend and hunting partner Bill Morrison who posts here on rare ocassions has a really nice double in that caliber. It is a wonderful caliber, that long case seems to reduce recoil and it is a real sho nuff killer of big bad animals..Good choice of calibers.
