Labman95Weatherby & Interarms Mark X .375 H&H
I'm looking around to pick up a .375 H&H and would like to find a used one if possible. Since used 375's are rarer than the proverbial "hens teeth" in my neck of the woods (Southeast PA) I've been looking on the internet auction sites.
There are several stainless steel Weatherbys with the synthetic stocks and bued/wood Interarms Mark X rifles available at fairly attractive prices (Approx. $600 US). The Weatherby's seem to go for about $1,100 new and only $600 used. Makes me wonder why they don't hold their value better. I don't know much at all about the Interarms Mark X's and was wondering what you guys think of either gun?
I plan of using the rifle for Cape Buffalo. Does anyone here have any first hand experience with either gun? I know there's an awful lot of knowledge here and I'm sure someone has experience with these rifles.

fla3006I've owned an Interarms Whitworth and can recommend it. I prefer the Mauser 98 system.

dan belisleI have both Mark X's and Weatherby's. The Mark X is the 98 Mauser in civilian clothes. The Weatherby's are Weatherby's. All the ones I have shoot well. I believe that it is just that more traditionalists want 375's, and the Weatherby's are not traditional lookin guns; and lot's of people want them until they shoot them. Most hunters/shooters (I'll figure everyone on this board as exceptions) think that 7 or 300 mag recoil is harsh, the 375 knocks them out of thier socks. Just a theory, FWIW - Dan

mstarlingI have a Japanese Weatherby Weathermark in .375 H&H. Got it relatively cheap from a dealer in PA on Auction Arms. Has a traditional style synthetic stock and recoil is well handled.
Has turned out to be an absolute gem! Shoots 235 Speer Hot Cores at 1/2" or better at 100, and 270 Barnes X's at about 1 1/4" at 200 yards.
I like it!

OldsargeI have a all-weather Mark X in my safe that no one, repeat NO ONE can have. My wife is on orders to bury it with me (along with a good supply of ammo. Who knows? I might need it!). Weatherby's are, as was said before, just Weatherbys.

Frank BellerI have both a Weatherby and the Mark X. Just for tradition, if I could only have one, it would be the Mark X. For shootability, I'll pick the Weatherby.

okie johnWhat's the difference between the Whitworth and the Mark X and any other variations out there? Is there anything to look for, or a reason to pick one over another? Thanks, Okie John.
