New 600 OK arriving Thursday night...
Well...Thursday night is "The Big Night" I have been waiting for...my 600 OK will be in my hands, finally...my 700 AHR soon to follow.

dancing

I'll post copious pics when I get it and get it photogged, most likely friday night when all are online.

One thing to mention about Wayne and AHR: He did whatever I asked of him, and he did it as well as it could be done. When you see my rifle(s) you will understand that this was no ordinary beauty of a 600 OK rifle, but quite unique on top of quite big. Same with the 700 AHR...my point being that Wayne should get all the credit for the build, and for the greatness of it, and though he is often appreciated and highly respected for his work on rifles, his name does not generally get mentioned with the very top of the rung builders, like a Breeding, nor AHR at the very top of the rung rifle companies, like a H&W, but Wayne's skills are top rung and AHR's build's do deliver with the best...my utmost respect and thanks to Wayne and AHR for their impeccable and untouchable work.

Wayne was cool enough to take a couple of sweet shots for me before he shipped it, and, hopefully, FLICKR being hopefully accepted, here they are:

Phil, very cool! With the way that recoil pad is designed, it should take about a minute after firing before you feel anything! I like the extended magazine as well. You can take out a whole herd with that cannon. Congrats!

Very nice rifle. I agree with you about Waynes top notch work. I am lucky enough to own 5 of his guns and love all of them!

Biebs,

Happy to finally make your acquaintance...Wayne speaks very highly of you, both as a master gun maker/ gunsmith, and as a person...thanks for the comments..I went with the F990 because of a surgically repaired right elbow, courteousy of a dirtbag with a tanto when I was in L.E.

Perhaps Taylor could most appreciate the extended mag, huh? Maybe someday I will ask him about it while he is hunting on the "Heavenly Plains"

BD2B,

You are a legend among Wayne's tales, especially as a true gun aficionado...my respects to you and your magnificent collection, particularly the Grey Ghost. May I note the engraved name on the barrel of my 600 OK as, "MJOLNIR."

That looks really nice. What stock and recoil pad is that? I'm having a 600 built right now and was thinking of putting a McMillan stock on it.

56Hawk,

The stock is one of Wayne's synthetic stocks at AHR that he uses for his syn stocked rifles...I don't know the manufacturer's name, but I can easily find out.

The recoil pad is a Pachmayr F990 Triple Magnum, their best pad for heavy recoiling rounds/rifles, or for those of us with surgically repaired elbows/shoulders! Mad

I am not sure a very thick recoil pad is a plus against recoil or make things worst. It puts the butt of the stock further away from your chest or shoulder and allows for a running start before it hits the shoulder.Just the other day I really layered-up on the clothing and thought that because of this my shoulder would not be hurt at all.I only fired 8 Lott rds and felt worst than ever.Next time out I am going back to the number of layers I wore before.I couldn`t believe I felt that sore especially with the winter layers.

Thanks, I am trying to decide between that pad and the LimbSaver. Let me know if you find out who made the stock too.

I know what you mean, I hold my 460 Weatherby as tight as I can against my shoulder. Pretty sure the recoil pad helps a lot though.

Shootaway,

I respect your line of reasoning, which I am sure is based, in part, on your experience with various recoil pads, rifles, loads of all types, hunting situations, and of course, physics and felt recoil/actual recoil versus recoil tolerance.

I used an F990 on my T-Rex, and also did not use one...big difference in felt recoil, if not in actual recoil, and I have high recoil tolerance, but also a bad arm to consider. There are obviously many great recoil pads by many great manufacturers from which to choose or not choose.

Bottom line here, to each his own, and to each his own experience and resulting choices.

Very cool looking rifle. Seems like the ultimate foul weather charge stopper! Any plans for optics or keeping iron sites only?

FFEMT5287,

Actually, Wayne has set up both of my rifles with a custom holo sight mount...he is currently having a run of 100 made, which he will then GunKote to match my rifle. I have several C-More holo sights to fit the mount...should be done shortly.

Sid-
"HADES" would be a great name for a big boomer like that. All Hell breaks loose when you touch one off so it would be appropriate.

56Hawk,

Wayne said the synthetic stock is made by MPI, but to AHR's specifications...so, a word of caution when you consider MPI stocks not purchased through AHR.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Probably go with a McMillan on mine, but it's nice to have some options.
