Singleshot03Problems sighting in 375 H&H
I have the rear sight elevated to the max setting and the best I get is still 4 inches low at 75 yards. I am shooting 285 grain bullet. The ammo was reloaded back in 1991.
Correct me if I am wrong but those results do not sound good to me.
I am not sure if it is my older eyes or would have restocking the barreled action have cause such a problem or is it my ammo? ( I do not think it is the ammo because I have other ammo reloaded from that time and they shoot great)
Do I put it back the barreled action back in the original stock?
Do I put different rear sight on it or put a base under the sight to raise the rear sight?
I never sighted it in with the original stock so I do not have historical data to compare
Yes, I will put a scope on it to hunt but I want iron sights for backup.
For DG what yardage would you sight in the rifle with iron sights or scope?
All advice greatly appreciated

Charles_HelmMight be easier to change the front sight blade. I prefer a short-range zero for iron sights, maybe 25-50 yards but others are no doubt different.
What kind of sights do you have?

You might try filig down the front sight a little. A shorter front sight will raise the impact point leaving the rear sight as is.

Charles_HelmAlso, for DG you might want the sights set with a 300-grain load.

JPKA lower front bead/blade will help.
For a 375H&H I prrfer 300gr bullets, softs and solids.
50yds is about the perfect distance for regulating iron sights, but I wouldn't bitch if it were 25yds, 75yds or 100 either.

Singleshot03THe sights are what ever came standard on a sako AV. Is what I descibe normal?
So, I do not know why I didn't think of that.
So should I get point of aim point of impact at 50 yards?
Thanks for your help,
Jim

Depends on the factory setting. I'd try 300 grainers at 25 and 50 yds, too.
In my Mod 70. a 270 grain bullet prints five inchers higher than a 300 grain. 300 is all I shoot.
