DUKE NUKEMCZ Action lined up for 505 Gibbs Build. Does action need opening up?
I have a Magnum CZ Action lined up for 505 Gibbs Build. Does action need opening up? Or can any gunsmith put a barrel on it?
TIA,
Duke

viperidaeI would talk to Wayne at AHR. He is IMOP the best CZ gunsmith around right now. I sent mine to him and am having a 3 down single stack magazine with a Rigby style floor plate installed. It should ensure 100% reliable feeding. I don't know the details but have always been told that you have to do a lot of "shoehorning" to fit the .505 in the action.

OldsargeReally? I find that an odd statement given that CZ will happily sell you a factory .505.

DUKE NUKEMI was under the impression the .505 was a custom shop gun.

500NI agree, buy a factory 505 Gibbs and customise it from there.

fourboreWhen you order a 505 from CZ you can specify some features including barrel length (perhaps profile, but I dont know that).
They add some mercury weight in the butt. I assume, you could get more or less.
I think they also have some of the AHR parts if you want the safety or trigger, but it might be marked up some?
It is worth a call to Kansas City rather than just ordering one blind threw a dealer.

RobgunbuilderAny ol Gunsmith could screw on the barrel but the cartridge wont fit or feed AT ALL unless you bought a 505 CZ action.
Reworking a .416 Rigby CZ for example will probably cost you $500 or more assuming you actually have someone who really knows what he's doing.
As others have stated save yourself alot of grief and send AHR a CHECK!-Rob

viperidaeMine is a factory CZ .505 Gibbs. The Safari Classic line comes from the custom shop. Not many, but some of them have had too much metal removed from the inside of the action and like to eject rounds from the magazine when the bolt is pulled back to quickly. Apparently the margin between fitting the cartridge in the action and removing too much is very small. Rather then taking up the issue with CZ I am having AHR fix it for good. I like the idea of the inline magazine better anyway from a reliability standpoint.
