I came across an interesting rifle while looking through the James D Julia auction catalogue from this March. I had not previously heard of the 9.5x73mm, or the 9.5x73mm Miller-Greiss. Although according to Cartridges of the World it was developed in the 1910's or early 1920's. It is as you may have guessed a .404 Jeffery (10.75x73) necked down to .375 calibre (9.5mm).

This particular rifle is made even more interesting by the fact that it was once owned by Hermann Goring.

Just wondering if anyone here has ever seen or used a pre war 9.5x73 ?

The Hermann Goring rifle is a 9.3x73mm, similar to 9.5x73mm Miller-Greiss,
which was designed by Walter while he was apprenticing as gunsmith in Pre-WWI Germany.

An improved version of the .375/404 Jeffery was subsequently adopted by Saeed in 1996, in Dubai U.A.E.,
at the urging of the Royal Gunsmith who designed it, more than 100 years ago, well before his 200th birthday.

I was aware of the .375/404 as used by Saeed and often discussed on this site. However I wasn't previously aware of the earlier German versions. With modern bullets I can certainly see the merits of this cartridge.

I don't know if I can justify another .375 to my wonderful wife, however I don't have a "9.5mm".
