50 BMG rifles............
Did Iver Johnson ever make a 50 cal rifle, if so where can I find info on it.
I thought I saw a 50 cal Rifle one time that was made by a Co. called something like AMAC, if I remember correctly it looked kinda like an Armalite AR50. Thanks for any info.

I remember the AMAC, but not the details.

Ask this question in the Military forum.

There was a 50 cal at Iver Johnson's Shot Show booth one year. I think it was in Houston? Anyway, that gun never made it to the market under the Iver Johnson name so far as I can recall.

Yes they did.It was called the AMAC5100. It is a shell holder action and used buttin rifled barrels by Broughton. The first 500 went to the Navy Seals and were reportedly extremely accuracte. I owned No. 501 and used it in a few 1000yrd FCSA matches. best groups were about 1.5 MOA. Skip Talbot says he has seen them do 1 MOA. With a K&P barrel I would not doubt it. Great design for bipod shooting.-Rob

Thanks Robgun, are the guns still being built by someone. So far I think I might get an Armalite AR50, I have an AR10 and love it. Is the AR50 a shell holder action? I remember seeing an advertisement several years ago of the Ivers Johnson/Amac rifle and it looked real nice.

I sometimes see AMAC 5100's for sale on gunbroker or gunsamerica. They ususally go for $3K w/0 scope. They are a much better gun than a AR50. Yes both are shellholder actions, but the AMAC 5100 has probably 5 times the locking lug area. The AR50's are good plinkers but simply not competative (2 MOA usually). You might look at the Advanced Longrange Systems upper for a SS AR15 action. They have been doing extremely well. Beats me exactly why, but accuracy is running close to the Macmillan bolt guns. Price for the upper is in the $1600 range.-Rob

actually an AR50 is a single shot bolt action, they have been doing quite well in competitions. the best being one with barrels set back and rechambered or rebarreled. Stock AR50's are know to have a lot of freebore
