Scope for CZ550 375 H&H

wonderwolfScope for CZ550 375 H&H
Express sights on my CZ550 375 H&H leave a lot to be desired, although I have been getting 2.5" MOA with the rifle so far with cast 264gr bullets. Looking at scopes I've heard a great deal about how good Redfield scopes are for a wide range of rifles. And for me they are more affordable than a Leupold of the same type. Looking at the 2-7x-33, Good chance I'll be going to Alaska with this rifle in the next year for a internship in lieu of being given a shotgun. And as some have pointed out the Redfield is made just down the road from the Leupold factory and uses many of the same components and processes.
Yes you can shoot it...No you can't have it...Yes I will hunt you down if it turns up missing

LWDYou'll get a variety of answers on this, and given the versatility of the .375H&H, none are wrong.
I've had a 3-9x40 plex reticle on mine. Now, I have a 2.5-10x50 German No. 4 on it.
Some will have a 1-4x. Others might have a lower magnification, fixed power. Some kick it up a notch to the 1.5-6x or 2-7x range. 3-9x or 2.5-10x will work well too. You probably don't want to go over 9x or 10x.
For me, the higher magnification works. But I'm hunting it out of a stand over feeders not crawling around in the alders with brown bear. I'd ask first what type of hunting you'll be doing.

I would look for something with 1,5-7 or 9x 32-42mm with plenty of eye relief. Avoid the low power stuff where objective diameter is same as tube diameter. These are next to worthless I do not understand why people buy them.

Sid-I am considering putting a Bushnell Elite 6500 1.5-8x32 on my 416 Remington to make it more versatile. I want low power for close up but a little more magnification for shooting light bullets a little farther out. You might want to check out Minox scopes. I have not tried this brand yet but they look promising. Maybe someone with a Minox scope can give you more info. Whatever you get I would make sure it has a lifetime waranty.

The straight-tube scopes allows the widest field of view, and work great on dangerous game 'stopper' rifles.
As the OP is going to Alaska, a low-power straight-tube scope could save his life against any up-close bears!

Charles_HelmI did not see a question in the orinigal post, but my AHR/CZ has a Trijicon 3x9. More light and top end than the 1.5-5 on my Mark X. But, OP said he will use his rifle for field work in Alaska, so I would go low mag and very high field of view.

AtkinsonI like to buy used Leupolds, the guarentee is good for life and you don't have to be the original owner..Been using them for 65 plus years and no complaints.. Locally I can pick up a used 2x7x33 11 or 111 for about $150 to $200 depending on condition.

wonderwolfThanks for the replies, Yeah I've never used a manification higher than 9x on any scope I own and I own several that go up to 24x which is only good for paper punching and varmints way out there.
I've got a 3-9x leupold on my 300 WM now I may pop on the .375 after I get rings (gun didn't come with any) and see how I like it. Took the rifle out again today and tried the 200 yard leaf on the express sight, its 3.5" off at 100 yards to the right and the 100 is 3.5" off to the left so it does me no good to move the sight. I'll work improving the irons but looks like scope is the only way to go to get this thing to shoot. Had more than a few shots touching out at 100 yards along with some wild flyers. This thing is quickly becoming my favorite rifle...I gotta own more of these CZ's

touchdown88Take a look at the Vortex Viper
Viper 2x-7I bought one to put on my 375 Ruger but switched it to my 45-70. I like the reticle a lot. Plus Vortex has great customer service.

cooperjdi have a minox z3 3-9x40 or 42mm i picked up from doug at cameralandny on sale. it has really good eye relief, really clear glass, and i got the bdc reticle for this one. i have not, however, shot the gun yet. so i cannot tell you how good the scope holds a zero, but i do like the scope so far. its my first minox, probably not my last. especially if doug keeps putting them on sale.

Use Enough GunOne of my 375's has a Leupold 2X8 on it and the other wears a Leupold 3.5X10. I've killed a trainload of African Dangerous Game and Plains Game with the two. Either would be my recommendation.

BEGNOI have 3 .375 H&Hs, all have 2.5x8 Leupold. I bought one of the new redfield revolution 4x12 for an old .300 WIN that I have, but it didn't hold up.

What height rings do you have on the rifle pictured? I want to assume that is a 40mm bell? Any problems feeding the magazine with a scope low on the action like that? I very much prefer to keep the scope as low as possible but find sometimes it interferes with feeding the rifle.

The rings are Warne, which are a little bit higher than the Talley's that we had originally planned on. Wayne at AHR used them to get enough clearance for the 40mm objective. I do not think the magazine on this one is any harder to load than any other scoped rifle I have, but I have not really been able to put it through its paces as I have had no big trips since I took delivery.
Did I understand that you want to use this rifle for bear protection in the field in Alaska? As I mentioned above, in that case I would go for more field of view (or even good open sights). You can always slip a higher-power one on it when you are finished with the internship.

wonderwolfWorking on the good open sights option, Taking a look at williams guide sight for modification for mounting on the rifle. I prefer the guide sight option over the scope but I haven't figured it out yet and I can at least try the scope for awhile to do load development.

NRCThe CZ factory rings run high as well.
My 375 HH CZ wore 1.5-5 Leupold 30mm w/ german reticle. Never killed anything with it, but worked real well.
Best thing I did with that rifle was shorten barrel to 22". Changed the balance quite a lot, and didn't miss the velocity loss.

ghostrider272I was lucky enough to pick up a Swarovski Z6 1-6x24 extended eye relief on here for a great deal. That will go on my LH M70 375 H&H when I'm ready to set it up. It should have a balanc for long range at the 6x and plenty of FOV on 1x for up close and personal.

wonderwolfI found a set of factory rings from a parts dealer at a gun show last weekend, They have about 1/4" clearance on the bolt handle from the eyepeice so that should work out well. I robbed the leupold off of my 300 WM and put it on the 375 to check, it'll stay on there for a while until I'm done with load testing then I'll decide if I wanna get another scope or stick with it. Thanks for all the help.
