Well since I sold my 50 Beowulf (and have some money burning a hole in my pocket), and I really really want to be a big bore shooter (hence my continous BSing here and made up stories) I figured I would ask for some advise.
If I were to buy one big bore caliber, and keep in mind I had troubles with the 50 Beowulf's recoil, that would work for everything a big bore should be used for, what should I get? I am thinking that the 458 Win mag would be the "best" fit, but I really want to know all of your opinions. Recoil does bother me, I guess I am a wimp, but I want something 0.4" diameter or bigger (to me that where the big bore begins not .375").
I am serious this time! I am truly sick of being exposed as the pathetic wannabe, poser, ASS_CLOWN that I all to frequently am. I WANT TO BE LEGIT!
Thanks for the advise.

ASS_CLOWNBFaucett,
Another brilliant and excellent post, keep them coming man! With each posting you enlighten us all more and more to your knowledge and experience with big bores.

By the way, do you have anything to say, which may be appropriate for this thread, say something about load experience with a 500 Jeffery (or possibly similar cartridge) and the 600 gr Woodleigh (or any 0.51" diameter Woodleigh)?
I KNOW PC knows who I am, and therefore needs NO "warning", that is why I asked.

ASS_CLOWNI had to edit my previous post, I took the pressure and PRE numbers from memory, BIG MISTAKE, as my MEMORY WAS WAY THE HELL OFF THE MARK!!
The corrected numbers are in BOLD FACED RED TYPE.
My hunting load of 122.5 gr of IMR4350 for the 570 grain Woodleigh (MV of ~ 2335 fps) produces a PRE of 0.0014" to 0.0015", this corresponds to a chamber pressure of 45,000 psi to 50,000 psi. The simulation software says ~ 47,400 psi.
My hunting load with the 600 gr PPSP of 117 gr of IMR4350 (MV of ~ 2220 fps) produces PRE of 0.0014" to 0.0015" which again corresponds to a chamber pressure of 45,000 psi to 50,000 psi. The simulation software says ~ 47,600 psi.
I apologize for any confusion my poor memory may have caused. (My notes were not at home thus the need to draw from the faulty memory banks this weekend).

ASS_CLOWNPC,
I have an improved version (500 AHR). In my rifle, with the PPSP 600 gr, I get extraction issues when I go above 2350 fps (Bertram brass). That load is 122.5 gr of IMR4350.
Interestingly enough, the 570 gr SP does about the same (~ 2380 fps), but that is about all the faster I would drive the 570 gr anyway, as it really expands at that muzzle velocity, even with impacts at 150+ yards. Typically, I drive the 570 SP at ~ 2335 fps +/- (122.5 gr of IMR4350).
I settled on a 2200 fps load with that bullet, which seems very promising.
If you want maximum velocity, and are limited to Bertram brass, the 535 grain pills will be you best bet. I can get ~ 2500 fps with those.
By the way, my barrel is 26.375" long.

EDIT
Oops I forgot I don't have that rifle, or do I.
