My 500 A2 brno 602 has bent the rear mount. I was shooting it recently and had an erratic pattern. I started looking and there was a space between the dovetail and the rear mount. It seems somehow the recoil was pushing upward on the mount and the left edge behind the recoil lug was bent so that the entire left side was up slightly. Very strange. However I can say the Leupold VariX III 1.5 to 5 has handled at least 100 rounds.

I have a 602 375H&H with a Luepold 1.5X5 in Warne mounts. I noticed my shots were off checked and found the rear base that has the tab had actually sheared part of the tab. Solved with locktite under rear base. My 550 in 416 Rigby has CZ bases that have a more robust lug on the rear mount.

I never heard of such a thing, but send it back to Talley explaining what you think happened, I'm sure he will replace it.....big bores really do funny things to scopes and mounts and stocks and lugs and triggers and Lord knows what else, just give them time...

Sounds like soft steel. You might consider a set of EAW rings from NECG.

Definitely contact Talley. They should be able to figure out what happened.

I have a set of talley's on my .585 and they are not as good a fit as warnes, the lug that fits into the rear bridge is undersized and this is not the case on either my cz m,ounts or my two sets of warnes. Also the little square rectangles that sit infront of the levers are not cut large enough so that on the front one it does not fit flush with the main part of the ring.

I have not got around to sending them back as it's a hassle seeing as I am in Oz.

That shouldn't happen under any circumstance but if bothe bases have a lug it sounds like only one ring was bearing on its shoulder or they would both be bent?

I'd bet a dollar to a hole in a doughnut that both the Kimber's and the Talley's are built with mild steel at best and probably a leaded mild steel. This material will hold up to all but the biggest thumpers.

I discussed having a set of rings made for my 505 with Wisner, sometime back. He told me then that the rings would have to be made out of a tougher material than normal, and predicted the outcome that has been previously described. Torn or bent recoil lug on the rings.

I am going to contact Talley on Monday, from all info they are a good company and will take care of this. Only the rear mount has a recoil lug.

Someone told me a lot of the Talley parts are made in this new sintered steel forming process (like gunmakers are using)that turns out uniform small parts but isn't real strong.

You might ask if they can supply a front mount with a lug, too. Good Luck.

If I were going to mount a scope onto the BRNO I would try to coerce Tom Burgess to make a pair of rings. I'm no metalurgist, but from my engraving experience his rings are built with a tougher material than the others I have worked on.

You could always case harden them. I have used the case hardening powder (sodium ferrocyanide) that Brownell's sells. It works really well. You will just need to have them reblued.
