todbartellMounting a scope on a 416
I am about to mount a Weaver V3 1-3X20mm scope on my Ruger No1-H 416 Remington Magnum. I have Leupold low rings. I have never mounted a scope on anything larger than a 300 magnum, so is there any tips or special procedures? Should I use some type of sticky tape and/or Loc-Tite on the screws?
Any info would be much appreciatted.

Pete ETod,
Just a quick tipwhich helps to show up any problems...take a very fine tiped black permanent marker pen and when you have fitted the scope mark a line on the scope either side of one of the rings. If the scope starts to creep back you will imediately see it. Black marker works well..it just about shows on the scope without being obvious...
Regards
Pete

<500 AHR>Definitely loc-tite your screws. I use the blue stuff (can't remeber the number). You can loctite the scope to the rings also, but in my experience it usually doesn't matter. The loctite just seems to shear if the scope is loose.

KanatakI picked up a great tip from a similar thread about a month ago. I applied a small amount of 3M Electical Coating to the inside of my rings (Talley QD) and let dry for about 24 hours. I bought the stuff at a local electrical supply store and it cost about $10. It comes in a 16 oz can with an applicator brush. I had experienced some problems with my 375 HH but the adhesive did the trick. About 75 rounds fired (300 gr bullets) and the scope didn't budge.
You might try the search feature as there have been many threads and a wealth of information regarding scope mounting.
Best of luck.
