.416 Rigby Cases
So far I can only find Norma listing .416 Rigby cases. Are there any other manufacturers who sell empty cases in this calibre?

I believe you can buy BELL brass for the Rigby
from Midway.

Betram make cases there soft however and only good for mild type loads. I have about 100 or so kicking around.

PC,

Would you mind terribly measuring the water capacity of your Bertram cases and letting me know what it is? I would appreciate it to no end.

Thanks,
Scott

I have had/have great problems with Kynoch (kymanco) brass some of my 500 Jeffery cases are too short about 3-4/10 mm.
Norma is a very fine product.

I'd advise against the Bell cases. I had very bad experience with them. The necks were too thick and I don't own a neck turner. After I got the Norma cases, I've been very happy with them. Some are already on their 5th firing with no problems.

UK members may be interested to know that Wilson & Wilson are listing Norma .416 cases at 83 per 100.

I also had problems with 416 Rigby brass made by Bell and also some made from 460 Weatherby. I got a box of loaded Bell brass and fired a few rounds off and two of the cases split over the shoulder. Upon close examination with a magnifing glass I found another case that had a hairline crack over the shoulder. I pulled the bullets from the remaining cartridges and found that it was all virgin brass including the one that I found with the hairline crack. At a gun show I bought a box 416 Rigby that was made from 460 Weatherby and had exactly the same problem as the Bell brass. First round I fired cracked. Examined the rest and found four more with cracks. Pulled all the bullets and found they were also virgin brass. I am going to anneal all the uncracked cases to see if I can salvage them.

Hart,
Just a thought, but since and many others have never had any problems with Bell brass, perhaps your chamber is a tad oversize, might be worth a chamber cast..or...that brass could be some of the old Bell brass, as it had some serious problems at one time (several years ago) but all that has been fixed I understand...I say this because split shoulders can be a product of fireforming also.

Ray, I thought so at first also. I measured the fired cases at the shoulders and they were just a few thou larger than the new brass. I think the problem is poor brass as I found 5 split shoulders in unfired brass. I do not know how old the brass is. I have fired about 10 rounds of Norma brass so far and they seemed OK. I have a feeling that the previous owner sold the gun because of the problem he may have had with the Bell brass. There were two cases missing from the box I got when I bought the rifle.

Also, Ray, please go to the reloading forum. I have posted a question about the use of foam ear plugs that you were looking for in the Africa forum.

Thanks, Hart
