I was just offered a new CZ 550 in .416 Rigby &
Warne rings for $599 delivered. Is that a fair price these days?

Dang good price, I paid 618 including taxand title for mine several years ago and I got it from one of the main importers. I think you will like it. I love mine. It may take a bit of an aquired taste. I remember thinking I might not like this gun the first few times I fired it. After a new stock, recoil pad,Mercury recoil reducer, and Brockman's ON/Off muzzle break, It shoots much more comfortably. Good hunting. "D"

Thanks guys, I have been teetering back and forth on the fence as to whether to do it.

Guess I had better go down there tomorrow when the store opens and buy it. Otherwise will likely be another one of those "kick myself" stories in years to come.

BTW, he will let me put it on unlimited time lay-away for that price, too....which in this case is important to me because this month we will be finishing stuffing the 'Vette engine in my Porsche and that is EATING money in the short term....feels about like personally financing the Iraq war....

So where do you guys suggest as a reasonable source for brass?

I am looking at buying this CZ 550 in 416 Rigby. I would appreciate any comments on the rifle, stock style etc. I know that the rifles are low cost but good. I also know that the DG calibers need a bit of tuning by a competent gunsmith. I am not sure if this stock is as good as a classic British rifle stock or an Oberndorf stock which i am familiar with in my other rifles.

What is the current situation with dies & cases? I can get Woodleigh bullets here.

I though these were $1000 rifles. That is what I had to pay for my 458Lott at Cabelas in mid-2009. Where can I get a new CZ in 416 for $600?

I would suggest looking in 2004 when this was posted. Big Grin

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Gander was selling them with dual crossbolts and very nice wood for $899, til I opened my big mouth, and all are gone. I blew a great chance to get one.

I'm the world's worst about doing this. One moderator in another forum told me that I was practicing "thread necromancy." Big Grin

Hi NakiHunter
I'm not sure if that is a LUX stock as stated in the auction for the rifle you want feedback on.

The price it closed on was a bit high IMO, a new one can be had for about NZ$2k

I've got a 375H&H with a similar stock, nicely figured but not LUX by any means. The hogsback stock is not bad recoil wise, but I prefer the straight american style

Cheers

Hello Nakihunter,
I have had one (European Luxe in 375 H&H)with this stock and I changed it for a new Safari model (identified "Classic Safari" from CZ USA) with a great American stock because I feel it much more better regarding recoil and also when shooting with a scope.

wicked sense of humor there!

I'd sell mine, it's it or the 404 Jeffery. Both are CZ's.
