Frank BellerWoodleigh FMJ .470 bullets ...............
I recently found a great deal on some Woodleigh FMJ .470 500 grain bullets made in 1996. When I received the bullets, I noticed that from the base end of the bullet, you could see a small circle of lead, then a circle of bright silver metal, and then the copper outer jacket of the bullet. Since this is my first time buying these bullets, a few questions: (1) are they OK to shoot in my Chapius double rifle ?; & (2) what is the bright silver-colored metal that I see ?
Thanks for your answers to my stupid questions.

N E 450 No2They will be fine in your Chapuis. Woodleigh solids are made with steel jackets so they do not deform. They are made for double rifles, even older British doubles. I use them in my British doubles.
Try their soft points, and also give the Swift A-Frame soft point a try.
The 500gr. Swift A-Frame shoots great in my 450 No2.

ScottSFrank, the Woodleigh solid is a copper clad steel jacket, lead core bullet. The silver metal you see at the base is the steel jacket. They are an excellent solid for ANY rifle. I second 450 No2 recommendation of the Woodleigh soft point as well. Personally, I think the Woodleigh soft is the very best big bore hunting bullet available.

JBoutfishnFrank, Woodleigh softs and solids are the only thing I shoot in my Krieghoff. Their performance is textbook.
