trekker111Remingtom 270gr 375 H&H load
I posted this under another forum but no results as of yet, maybe here will work better.
I picked up a box of Remington 270gr soft points, mainly just for the brass (I know I know) and was just going to blast them off at the range doing some speed shooting drills, but decided to fire a group with them just to see. Since they grouped well I decided to save them and burn them up during Deer and pig season. Anyway, Does anyone know what bullet remington puts in this load? I want to try duplicating this load and these bullets ruin basically no meat. I shot 4 deer this year, 1 with my 45-70, and 3 with this load, and I lost more meat to the 1 round of 45-70 than 3 rounds of the H&H.
Any idea what bullet they use? Remington won't say, I've already tried. Well, they still haven't returned my e-mail.
I also know that my 375 H&H is a little over kill for Whitetail but I love that rifle.
I've never posted a pic before, but if this works it is the exit wound on one of the deer I shot.

.366torqueWay to go!!!! Canuck uses a 375 for deer hunting as well.
As to what Rem uses for bullets, I'm not sure.
Nice to know about the minimal meat damage as well, thanks!

Yes a Remington 270 gr SP

if the box is marked with item # R375 M1 and it has an advertised velocity of 2690fps. 375 works just fine for whitetail, just pick your shot. About ten years ago a small buck was peeking from behind a tree at me from a couple hundred yards out, I put a 270 gr hornady started at 2712 fps right at the base of his neck, he went right down, I found a perfect mushroomed bullet under the hide of his ham(250+ grs IIRC), plowed quite a trail thru the inards though. trekker111This buck was in the bottom of a thorn filled gully on a high voltage transmission power line right of way, and was about 80 yards away, and about 15 to 20 feet below me. The bullet entered above his right shoulder, grazed the spine, and exited as seen in the pic. The other 2 deer I shot with this load were does, one about 150 yards away quartering away from me, the bullet entered just behind the near side leg and exited out the chest/base of the neck, taking out a main artery and turning my hayfield into a modern art masterpiece. The other was quartering slightlytoward me at around 90 yards, hit in the front leg, shattered the leg bone took out both lungs and grazed the stomach on the way out. Even with the shattered leg there was still minimal meat loss.
The doe with the leg flopped a little, the artist ran about 15 yards, the buck dropped as if smacked by god.

N E 450 No2I have shot a pig with load and it did well.
I have found them accurate too.
Sometimes you can find Remington bullets in bulk, but I have not seen the .375's
I think the Hornady 270 Round Nose would be a good choice.
I have also killed a few deer, and my brother killed a nice pig, all shots have been bang/flops with the 235 Speer over 60 to 64 Gr of IMR 3031.
This is a lower recoil load that shoots and kills great.

600 OverkillNot too bad of a deer. I've used Hornady 225's @ 2600 fps & Hornady 270's @ 2500 and both work great on deer. I like the 270's a little better for angled penetration when needed and little blasted meat damage. The 375 is an outstanding light caliber :-)

trekker111Curiosity got the best of me and I pulled one of the bullets, as best I can tell it looks like a hornady 270gr roundnose softpoint flat base. but that's just comparing them to pics on the internet.

Walter ProciukI played with some 270 Remington's and I even pulled a few bullets and weighed the charges. I would bet it uses the same load in the Alliant powder guide. Reloder 15 is a good .375H&H powder.

Thebear_78The federal classic 270gr load shoots very accurately out of my 375 H&H. I carried them for moose this year but didn't get to try any out. Most anything will do a fine job out of the 375 H&H. Modest velosity and large bullet work together very well.

MikelravyI picked up quite a few boxes of these at a nice discount a while ago. Penetraton tests on wood were pretty good and they shoot well in my M70. I wouldn't be afraid to use them on elk or moose sized game at all.
