tonto458 lott info
Just took the dive. I saw a ruger #1 in 458 lott
and had to have it. Its stainless with the laminated stock.
1. going to order stuff to load some shells. Got a bag of 20 brass with the gun. What kind of loads do you think I should start with? Where is a good place to order reloading supplies, my uncle is all set up but Im sure he doesnt have the dies and such for this baby. Had a press given to me but not set up myself yet.
2. what kind of mods would you guys make to the ruger think she needs a better but plate and to be bedded any other suggestions going to call and order some factory loads just to get a quick fix. thanks for any info you can give me. Hope i didnt screw up too bad.

Boss KongoniWhat are you planning to hunt with all that firepower?

Ken ClineI think MidwayUSA has the supplies for that. They do have a website
www.midwayusa.com Sounds like a great gun. I have a stainless #1 in 45/70 which I really like. The Lott is much better than the 458 for a stopper. You can also download it with lighter loads to save your shoulder. If it seems to "barrel heavy" you could always put a mercury recoil reducer in the butt stock at the same time you change the pad. I agree the factory pad is junk. I think the back says "Goodyear" or "Firestone", because it looks like they just took a chunk off an old tire. Also

Paul HIf you haven't shot anything as big as the lott, I'd recomend starting with 350 gr loads. I found Reloader 7 to work very well with the 350 gr bullets. I don't know how much published data is now available for the lott due to it's factory status. I used max 458 win mag loads as starting loads for the lott.

Gonzo FreakPowerIn my own self interest: What's the possibility of getting this Ruger 458Lott in a lefty bolt? Is that possible, either via factory or custom conversion?

HammerGonzo,
John Dustin (Precision Shooting writer) built me a swap barrel rifle on an old left-hand Sako action. One of the barrels is a 458 Lott and another is a 470 Capstick. Work fine.
