Heritage Arms.458 ammo
I have been thinking about shooting some of the 465 grs a square triad ammo this year in Africa, opinions, good or bad.
I like the .458 it has saved my life twice, please no comments on my caliber choice, I know it is not ideal but I can shoot it and hit what I am aiming at with excellent precision

500grainsThis post is not directly responsive to your question, but...
TCCI told me that they made the solids that A-Square loaded in its factory ammo. Comparing TCCI solids to A-Square solids, I think it is true.
So you could load up some of your own loads using TCCI solids.
Then for a lion load, you can use a Hawk .035 jacket bullet because they will blow apart pretty easily.

Heritage ArmsThe lion load is not a very good
concept, I can see wounds resulting from a very frangible bullet.

500grainsSorry, the triad included the Dead Tough, the Monolithic Solid and the Lion Load. I thought you were trying to duplicate the whole triad. The Hawk pretty much duplicates the lion load, and TCCI duplicates the solid. So the empty patch is the Dead Tough. I know of no soft that uses the same structure as the dead tough.

HunterJimAlek,
In the African Hunter v7#6 (Dec 2001) Don Heath wrote about the Zimbabwe experience with a large lot of .458 Win Mag monolithic ammo National Parks bought in 1991 from A-Square for the culling program.
Don reports that .458 WM and .416 RM stored in country exhibits bullets moving forward out of the case, apparently from heavily compressed powder charges.
He chronographed some of the rounds not showing this in 1996 and averaged 2,174 fps with a mean deviation of 37 fps.
He repeated the test with the same batches "recently" and got 1,780 fps and mean deviation of 180 fps.
So if you are going to use older A-Square ammunition, beware!

Heritage ArmsThanks for the info. I am going to buy one of Art's .458 mag rifles and liked the concept of a little lighter .458 with a little more velocity. The ammo will be in storage for 3 mons at the most, we are going to do some shooting on the farm in Africa this year.
