416 Rigby copper fouling
I have been shooting a 416 Rigby extensively since the New Year, preparing for a just completed hunt. I've noted that the amount of copper coming out of the barrel after comparatively few rounds seemed excessive. (I'm still using my supply of Hunter's Extreme Copper Melt, now gone from the market)
My PH also shoots a 416 Rigby, and says he has noticed the same thing.
Is there something about this round that causes this? I'm shooting TSX's, and velocities are modest at 2380 fps. The only other real big bore I have experience with is a 470, with much lower velocities. My 375RUM with velocities much higher doesn't foul nearly as much with the same bullet. Any thoughts?

IT's no big deal. I have an RSM, hunted Africa with it, shot hundreds of rounds. No issues. I just run Wipeout through it and good to go. jorge

I am in agreement with jorge, I have used the foaming bore cleaner with absolute success in all of my rifles, including my big bores, takes the copper right out.

Then agin, never had many problems with copper fouling in my big rifles, your .416 must have a fairly rough barrel.

Majority of your problem the barnes foul much worse than most other softs I have shot. Any medium-big bore at these velocities is going to foul more, try some other softs for fun you'll see the difference.

I shoot 350 gr Barnes Xs at 2700 fps from my CZ Rigby ... I do see some fouling, but it comes out easily with Shooter's Choice.

Rifle has a few hundred rounds on it so it's bore may have smoothed out some through use.

I do see fairly significant fouling in my .338 Win Mag using Barnes Xs. That rifle has a lower round count.

I was used to some fouling with the old Barnes X, but since I have gone to the TSX this has virtually disappeared in my other, higher velocity rifles. I loaded up some cheaper Hornady interbonds for full power practice, and got about the same thing. Maybe a rough barrel. Damn thing shoots moa, hate to mess with it much.
It just seems that as much copper comes out after a dozen rounds as any other rifle at 50.
