458 Lott, 458 win mag, 550 Mag 2.5" and 550 Mag
I think the way to go would be to keep the headstamp the same but stamp the chamber lenght (550 Magnum 2.5 chamber). I have already talked to Mike about building one of these on a mauser. If we stick to 500 gr bullets we might get the same velocities as the 458 win mag but we would have a bigger hole. With all the mauser actions out there it would make a nice bear protecting round. The neck on that case was .013" thick and the bullet slid right in.
That bullet is a 800gr so it is alittle long and 500gr -600gr might be the way to go.

GrandpasezNeal--That is great that a short version, works so as to let bullet fit without changing taper of the sides.IE,
a shorter version with same taper.,That 2.5 in case will get a 600 gr bullet as fast as a 458Win gets a 500 gr.
And it is a tremendous use for regular length actions, compared to the short bottlenecked 458 nonsense..Ed.
Ed with all the surplus mauser actions and inexpensive stocks around Im going to have to put one on the THINGS to Do list. Sure would make a good bear rifle for Alaska.
Speaking of 600gr bullets call Hawk tomarrow to close out the order 1-856-299-2800

470 MbogoHi Neal,
Just read through your web page and found it very interesting. It's a big bite to chew and it looks like your doing everything right. I'll be looking forward to seeing your project complete and reading about the results. Nice meeting you and hunting with you. Chris and I are thinking about going to SCI this year and hope to see some of the 550 Mag rifles there.
Take good care,
Dave
