Lord knows, but my LEU 2.5-8X w/ Mildot reticle has gone belly up after approx 150+ rounds through a 9lb 375H&H. Frowner

I started using it for a yearly kill permit to take long shots on whitetail in low light and it worked very well. I needed it for tomorrow but am glad it broke at the range and not while afield. I want to give it a proper burial but will see if LEU can bring it back to life.

Out comes the LEU 2.5X!!! Smiler

I've had one on my M-70 .375H&H since 1997; maybe 300-400 full-power rounds.

Leupold should be able to repair it.

Gary I would have guessed that it would last longer than your shoulder! Apparently not, and I do agree that Leupold will quickly and correctly repair it. Sorry for your troubles, but hopefuly it wasn't during a DG charge! Wink

cheers

To be fair, this scope belongs on a Supergrade M70 '06 that is a safe queen. On the otherhand, the 375H&H I put it on is used and abuse a lot and looks it. It's pretty darn beat up. When I stuck this scope on it I continued to treat the rifle hard so I may have added wear and tear to the scope over and beyond the rounds I shot w/ it.

This rifle shoots very well w/ its fixed sights in good light and I do fine w/ the 2.5X, but I liked using the 2.5-8X mildot when culling on the permit as I could take deer out of a group at distances in low light.

Plenty durable! I used mine for ten years on a light Ruger No.1 .45/70 in which I was shooting a 400 grain bullet at 2270 FPS MV for a recoil of 57 Ft/LB, far more recoil than from the Ruger No. 1H .375 H&H I took it off of to put it on the .45/70. As a matter of fact, Leupolds were the ONLY BRAND of scope I used on that .45/70 that did not disintegrate from its' recoil!! However, it has a standard duplex reticle.

That Leupold should hold up for years. Send it back and they'll make it right.

What's your white-tail load?

It started out as me getting trigger time w/ the 375H&H on the kill permit in preparation for a bear hunting trip. At that time I used a standard velocity 300PT load. The results were consistently pleasing w/ minimal meat damage when compared to a 150gr 270 and a 180gr '06 I was using then.

Since that time I gradually shifted to using the 375H&H as the main rifle for this. I've used several different 270 and 300gr bullets/loads but am back to the plain-jane 300 partition at a standard velocity for anything I use this rifle for.

I have a cheaper Leupold vari-x compact 3x9 thats held up to 10 years of guiding and well over 1500 rounds. Luck (bad) of the draw I guess, having one go out on you that soon. Hopefully your fixed scope will fare better thumb

Edit-That compact is on a 375 H&H....
