Howdy Gents.

Does anyone make a good synthetic (or even laminated) stock for the Dakota Model 76? It is a .375 H&H.

I don't see anything from H-S Precision or MacMillan. Dakota apparently has them but they are $1,250 which is a bit much I think.

When faced with this dilemna in 2007, my only choice was an MPI stock blank.
It has required major fiberglass boat-building and auto-body skills to finish.
I still need to sand it, fill it and paint it one more time.

If there is a Dakota sporter stock now, who makes it, MPI, or a top secret local supplier?

McMillan Model 70 inlets work fine with just a little bit of work. I've done several.

I bought a McMillan-made, "Hill Country" stock here on AR's "Classified" section a few months ago. It is now with my Dakota .338WM at Ralf Martini's shop for installation, along with some other up-grades to that rifle, a 3-digit Mod. 76 made when Don Allen was alive and well.

I have no idea if HC will sell these separately, they DID tell me a few years ago, that they would sell me one of their nicely styled Mickys for a P-64 Mod. 70, tho'. These are NOT "cheap", are just lovely to look at and hold and suit me as I prefer an open grip, straight not reversed comb and fairly slender forearm.

Worth a call to HC and, maybe, they can/will help you.

CAS when you say 'a little bit of work' do you mean for an experienced gunsmith or stock guy like yourself, or can an average schmoe do it?
