DRBCZ 550 375 'Upgrade'
Ok, another thread on the CZ 550.
I have a CZ550 in 375 that I use as my primary hunting rifle. It's about three years old, and has a Leupold vari-x III 1.5-5 in Warne QD mounts. I also got rid of the orginal hogs back wood and put in into a locally made synthetic stock.
Ok here is my question: I want to 'upgrade' this rifle, so what should I do?
Some of my thoughts were, a) a 3 position safety (can anyone post a picture of a CZ with one) b) have a barrel band put on, c) new wood stock d) perhaps shorten the barrel an inch or two.
I have already had the action worked on as it didn't feed relaiably when first purchased. It feeds fine now, but is still rough.
JudgeG, any chance of some more pictures of your toy, as well as some detail of what you did?
Any comments appreciated.

jeffeossohere's my thoughts on it
1: the 3pos will look like anyother 3 pos. You can do this work yourself, if you measure 10 times, and cut one.
2: Barrel band... AND shortening the barrel...
If you decide to do either, you'll have to remove the front sight (flat hammer, light taps on band) so if you decide on one, do both.
3: stock... okay, I don't like the stock, either.. BUT, rasp it down to where it fits you before spending a couple hundred for a new one.

mstarlingThe fellow that did JudgeG's stock work is terrific. Not inexpensive, but the work is beautiful. I believe he quoted me about $650 for shortening, recarving the cheek, adding a rosewood foreend, recheckering and so on.
Wish I had that kind of disposable income anymore.

HunterJimDave,
You can do this in stages if you want to bite off smaller chunks.
I had my BRNO M602 modified after its first hunt to install a M70 style three-position safety because the "backwards" safety was something I vowed to either fix or sell the rifle. I hated that thing. I believe Chay Zed has fixed that themselves in the 550.
This year Jim Brockman installed a (slightly shorter) Lothar Walther barrel with Jim's Generation III foresight and ghost ring rear sight. This is my first L-W barrel, and so far it shoots everything to the same point.
Phase III will be stock work.

I won 3 cz magnums and really I can not afford the 3 pos safety's as much as I would like them but I don't really mind the new cz 550 safety it seems to work fine. Funny thing is my little cz 9.3 has a 3 position safety
I would add a Qtr Rib before a 3 position safety

huntingcatThe front sight base ring on CZ 550's seem easy to remove judging by the description of knocking it off with a few taps of a hammer. Hammers are not my favorite tools. How is it installed and fastened? Solder or epoxy.
Could someone elaborate please?

Dr. DucMine is soldered and the flux is corrosive.
