500 s&w. Reloading primer question magnum vs non magnum
I have always reloaded my s&w 500 using magnum rifle primers. I am now out of magnum primers and have Plenty of standard rifle primers (for some reason all my guns take magnum primers). Anyway, I am about to prime a couple hundred pieces of brass and was wandering if velocity will suffer with the standard primers. Is it worth waiting to get the good stuff? Or am I just worrying about a few feet per second.

I don't use magnum primers in any cartridge that isn't burning more than 60gr. of medium-burning powder.

Try the standard rifle primers and keep an eye on the extreme spread and standard deviation of your bullets' velocities.

I don't use magnum primers in my 500 S&W Magnum. When switching from magnum to regular large rifle primers in that cartridge, you'll probably have to increase the load by 1 to 1.5 grains to get an equivalent load. You may get better accuracy with the regular primers though.
