A Rare 9.5mm cal. Peterlongo Take-Down Mauser - cased

I wonder if anyone else saw this at auction this weekend. Its the best Peterlongo I have ever seen. The 9.5 caliber is actually a .375 caliber - but not sure if its a 9.5x57, or a 9.5x60 cartridge, or ?? ... anyone with info on what this caliber might be, please chime in. And .... its on the way to join its big brother here in Wisconsin.

Perhaps the chambering might be this one, reference W.B. Dixon's book "European Sporting Cartridges" Volume 2, page 338, as an addendum to Volume 1 page 146 "Peterlongo Cartridges".

the IAA forum discusses and shows a 9.5x60 Peterlongo cartridge. It looks like it may be a shorter version of the 11.2x72 Schuler, except in 9.5 mm caliber - which is a .375 dia. bullet. Hope it turns out to be such as I have plenty 11.2x72 Schuler brass that I can form into 9.5x60.

Even easier if made from the 11.2x60 shuler case.
I make them from 458 brass, turn the belt off, rebate the rim.

I got the rifle in hand yesterday and I couldn't be more pleased. The rifle is a 9.5mm Peterlongo caliber. A .375 dia bore. I have shown the proof stamps that I found on the barrel and hope someone can explain their meaning. I also show 5 cartridges that I loaded and a case label I made for the rifle's case, I used the chamber cast to get the cartridge dimensions. Its rebated case made from 375 H&H brass with the belt removed and the head rebated. They are loaded with a fire-forming load of 56g of IMR4064 and a 235g Speer bullet.

UPDATE:

Back from the range today. Here is the results of firing the 5 loaded cartridges. see target below. This first outing was with fire-forming loads. According to loading data for the 376 Steyr, shown in the book, African Dangerous Game Cartridges, by Pierre van der Walt, I assume the 9.5 Peterlongo cartridge will be capable of matching the performance of the 376 Steyr, which is capable of 2870fps with a 235g bullet, 2600fps with a 270g bullet, and 2500fps with a 300g bullet.

Also shown is a comparison of different cartridges and their case capacity in terms of grains of water.

As mentioned in a prior post, I made cartridges for my newly acquired rifle in 9.5 Peterlongo caliber by modifying 375 H&H brass. It took me 20 hours to make 25 pieces of brass. For those that may be interested, and those that may need to make custom cases, the following captioned pictures tells the process of how I made them.

Is the shortened 375-338 die close enough to fired dimensions to use as a FLS die now or is your plan to only neck size from now on?

The die was shortened by about 0.150". Fortunately I had 2 sets of 375-338 dies, RCBS and C&H. I shortened the C&H die and it will be dedicated to the 9.5 Peterlongo cartridge. I have over 400 sets of dies, and sometime I have to mix & match 3 or 4 sets to load a strange cartridge.

I built a 9,3x62 necked up to 9,5 named it a 9,5x62 or 375 x62 take your pick! It duplicated a 375 H & H with factory ammo for all practical purposes.

If I were you Id disregard all suggestions and take a chamber cast..
