With the recent postings about the 470 capstick, I got to wondering if anyone had ever blown the win mag out straight? I know, why in blazes would one do that, when the darned case isn't big enough for a .45 bore.

I'm just thinking about making a .475" rifle to shoot my 460 gr WFN gc cast bullets out of, and about all the case capacity I need is that of a 45-70, or maybe a 470 2", but I'm not so sure I want a short action.

I don't see why it would not work. But if you are going to all of the trouble and expense of building a rifle, why not build one that will handle all of your hunting needs? You can certaily load the capstick down for your cast loads, but you can load it up as well. Or you can built the .475 x 2" on a Model 93 mauser for a nice light short action package.

Yeah, that would make sense, but with the 458 HRH (416 howell necked up ie 2.5" 404) and a 500 Jeffrey, I really don't think that a 470 Capstick would somehome gain me anything.

Hmm, perhaps the 2" 470 is the better option. Gotta start scrounging for a cheap short action candidate.

Hannibal and I are waiting for someone to build up our proposed .475 H&M Express, a Mauser length .475 on a Rigby case. That way you maximize your powder capacity and magazine capacity by eliminating the silly belt. Any takers?

The .475 H&M is a Rigby case shortened to 2.5" and the OAL is 3.34." The idea is to easily deliver .470 NE ballistics in a standard M98 action (probably with either a dropped WR style magazine or a extended and opened Mauser box). The 470 Mbogo is it's bigger, badder brother.

I only hear from him every couple of weeks and then only on weekends. I susptect that he is one busy young man.

I doubt if it would suit me, I can see that you would be making the same mistake that Winchester made with the 458...lack of powder space and compaction, thus high pressure etc. etc....Learn from their mistake and go with a full lenth case.
