Finally, my barrel plumber came thru and delivered! I obtained a Ruger #1-B in 7mm Mag. a few months ago and without firing it off it went for a new barrel in .405 Winchester.

First firing exhibits a bit of punch to the shoulder and an adequate amount of down range whump for my purpose. Accuracy is not quite up to my expectations, but that's the fun of getting a new rifle, range work and reloading.

Wish me luck fellows, I've got load development to do.

have a ball, shoot it till the rifling comes out, and DO NOT share your load data with other 405 guys.... they'll usually be shooting a whimpy levergun.

I'm beginning to believe that there's a secret .405 cult due to the lack of data. I've got a load using Varget that duplicates the factory load with a 300gr Hornady at 2250 fps. Now I just need to get the usual #1 bedding glitchs ironed out (and learn to shoot the lil beastie).

Today's fix was removing the sharp edges from the face of the trigger. That'll make things a bit more comfortable.

Have Fun, But watch your case length. A guy blew his .405 up recently. The barss he got was too long and he didn't trim it properly as he didn't bother to find out what his chamber dimensions actually were. The guy wound up crimping his case into the bullet while in the chamber.-Rob

It was a 1895 lever gun. I believe it was one of the browning re-makes, not an original,-Rob
