12 gauge slug casting/reloading
Anyone cast/reload their own shotshell slugs? I recently bought a used MEC 600 Jr to try out shotshell reloading. I have a Lee 1 ounce slug mold which casts hollow slugs made for loading in lead shotshell wads. How well do these work? Anyone ever try the larger NEI cast slugs? What diameter should I be looking at if i decide to try out an NEI slug in a mossberg rifled slug barrel? NEI has .732", .734", and .740" slug molds available. I am not really interested in trying sabot slugs right now. Thanks.

Ranb: I have not used the Lees myself, but have heard some of the boys on the cast bullet boards say they can be very nicely accurate. As to the NEI conicals, you may find yourself wanting to locate some brass 12-gauge shells to load them in, as paper or even plastic hulls may not have enough room inside them, and certainly if you try to seat them in a plastic shot cup. This remains an intriguing area of loading/study however. I keep thinking a big NEI conical atop a wad column atop a few drams of FFg in a brass 12-gauge case would be very interesting in a rifled slug barrel. An 835-grain paradox-style conical of about .72 caliber moving at 1500-1600 would have a lot of clout, if it could be done safely.
