Does anyone make a .416 spitzer style or boatail bullet? I would like to do some long range shooting with my .416 Taylor. I was looking at the bullets used in the .416 Barrett loads but I could not find a source of who made them. It has a 24 inch barrel and the guy I bought it from said he made a 300 yard shot on an elk with it once. I just want to goof off with it a little at range. Just an idea for fun....

GS Custom, for one. can't think of anothe offhand but inside 600 yds, i don't think you gain much anyway. I would think others will eventually but not until the Barret gets some steam.

Have you looked at the Nosler Partition 416 - 400gr? Maybe not a true "spitzer", but definitely not a round or flat nose bullet. According to Nosler's web site, the BC is .390.

Speer makes a 350 grain spire point boat tail, if I remember correctly. A good , cheap practice bullet.

the barrett bullet is turned solid bronze - you make them.

Hawk makes some 300 and 350gr spitzers in .416, they seem decent.The speer 350gr is a good bullet, I've used it on black bear with great results.It's more of a flat nose/mag tip.

I just spoke with hornady, and they say the .416 340gr is back on the drawing board.If you remember they listed it 4 or 5 years ago but it was never made.If it's back on the table, might be an indication that the 416 will be realised.

The 350 Speer Magtip is pointed but not boat-tail. I use them for practice being accurate and the cheapest thing I can find. The 350 TSX is also a spire point and in a change from the norm is one of the cheaper .416 caliber bullets around here.

Gerard does not make the bullets for Barrett, he makes much better ones.

I think Barrett makes the bullets themselves,and loads the ammo for the .416 Barrett with good QC, good as it gets with a non-GSC bullet.

I looked into some of the suggestions. Those GS bullets look great, but a little spendy for plinking. Does anyone know of lighter .416 bullets? I noticed Hawk has some 300gr. I am going to give those a try but would not mind finding lighter ones to play with also.

.........Barnes makes a 300 gr Triple Shock ., They go real fast from the 416 Rem .,.You could paper patch some 41 mag. pistol bullets and plink with them ...,.,That is the achille,s heel of the 416 no 25 cent bullets for blastin .....However the 350 gr Speer Mag Tip is a great bullet ..around 50 cents each and tough enuf to be very useful ...

Barnes' website says they have a 300gr TSX scheduled for release in 2008. It is a flat base design, but should make for a flat shooting 416 Taylor.

I have some of those 400gr Noslers Partition SP bullets for my 416 Rem. I've fired some and they don't go with the other rounds. I know I could probably bring them in line but I only have a few left. So the heck with them.

Some 300 grainers at around 2600 fps should definately be interesting, and I should be able to "sort out" any porcine critter that wanders in front of my sights with it. I bought a box of 350 grain speer a couple years ago, but havent loaded with them yet. I got my 416 Taylor back a few weeks ago, and cant wait til deer season is over to do some serious load development. So far just some 400 grain Hornady's to get my express sights regulated, then the game is on for lighter/faster bullets.

That is the conundrum. There are no cheap long-range big bore bullets but you can shoot cheap big bore bullets long ranges.

Hawks can be very accurate in some cases but the big bore bullets tend to break up on impact. We like to call them Hawk grenades.

The Taylor is a 300 yard gun with about any bullet, as is the .375, .416 Rem., or 404 Jefferys..You won't see enough improvment in Spitzer bullets with the big bores to make a lot of difference, at least I have not in any of my tests..I have shot up to 400 yards and you can easily duplicate a 30-06 with 180 gr. loads as far as field conditions go with about any 350 to 400 gr. bullet..
