The one that I saw was absolutely superb as to fit and finish.

That said, is H&W THE premier "factory" rifle maunfacturer on the planet? I would very much like to hear from those with experience, as I have zero...only admiration.

Like heavenknows already explained Ritterbusch is sound but I think miles away from Hartmann & Weiss.
Both of us, heavenknows and me know H&W quit well, do we HK?
I personally own a few H&W rifles and the amount of work which is spend on the detail is amazing. The quality of the Ritterbusch rifle which I own also, is far behind them.
Fit, finish and function is flawless on a H&W (as well as the price) and it is difficult to find a better maker, which covers the full portfolio(side by side shotgun and rifle, o/u, bolt action, sigle shot)in Germany.
