ScottS405 Win with 400 Woodleigh SP Results
I thought some here may find this interesting.
Loaded some 400gr Woodleigh soft points up in the 405 Winchester case. Used CCI 200 primers, Hornady brass, Reloder 7 powder, and a new manufacture M1895 Winchester.
Best load was also the fastest tested.
Muzzle velocity - 2163 fps (avg of ten shots)
Extreme spread - 21 fps
Standard deviation - 7 fps
There were no signs of pressure extraction was slicker than snot!
Best 300 grain load Same components as mentioned above, BUT with Hornady 300gr FP)
Muzzle velocity - 2512 fps (average of ten shots)
Extreme spread - 25 fps
Standard deviatoin - 9 fps
So one can duplicate the ballistics of the 450/400 3" NE with the 405 Winchester.
Pentration was ~ 18" of cedar with the 300 gr load.
Pentration was over 24" of cedar with the 400 gr load.

SAme chrony measured these velocities as measured the velocities achieved with my 500 AHR (~2520 fps with 570gr Woodleigh)
For the record 45 ACP 230 grain ball measured 837 fps over a ten shot string when fired form a ~ 11" barrel. This was our "calibration".
